The Howard Stern had featured roasts before, but free of FCC regulation on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, the Artie Roasts reached new heights of outrageous, uncensored humor. Lange’s popularity with fans assured it would be an event and my artwork was featured on Howard TV OnDemand and Stern’s website... It even inspired news stories on Howard 100.

When the roast of Gary Dell’Abate came to the Stern Show, I had the task of topping the Artie Roast art. In additon, I wanted to load this illustration with as many inside jokes as possible. Using the Empire State Building spire as an anchor, I built a “King Kong” themed art over the period of about three weeks.

On a roll from the Artie and Baba Booey specials, the Stern Show next decided to lambaste comedian Andy Dick, abruptdly bringing the roasts to an end. For my part, I was pleased at how well I had managed to capture the comedian’s likeness.

After the success of the Artie Roast, I was contacted by comedy writing legend Sam Simon to create an illustration for the single episode radio sitcom he was developing for Howard Stern. Sam had a great concept and the project quickly fell into place. As a bonus, I got to sit in on a recording session for the special.
